Fire baskets or "dog" baskets were traditionally used to burn solid fuels and would have sat alone in an open style chimney breast. These would have been frequently used in Georgian and Victorian periods and could have been found in most rooms of the home. They comprise of a free standing fire grate supported by 2 or more cast iron legs. The term "dogs" is used for the supports or legs for the basket and are normally quite ornately cast.
Most of our combination fires come in a variety of finishes, all black, highlight and full polish. Combination fireplaces are capable of burning solid fuels or gas (unless specified) and we can supply a choice of fully certified gas fires with any suitable fireplace.
